Do ferrets mind being without a partner?

I am planning on getting a ferret soon and I was just wondering if they don't mind being without a playmate? Do ferrets prefer other ferrets? How will they act if they don't have another ferret friend? I plan on giving my ferret a lot of attention and proper care it deserves, I just want to know if he needs a buddy :)
