Pet safety tips help?

I have 2 ferret cages 1 near my bedroom door and one near the window and for some reason I'm worried that if someone sees my ferret they will try to steal him and his playmate plus the ghetto is just down the street and the neiboughs pets have also been stolen but returned! So my question is will my ferrets near the window be safe?
